The American Red Cross Nancy J. Smith Homeless Shelter operates 365 days a year at 809 Cedar Street in Rockford, IL. This 48 bed shelter serves a growing homeless population within our community, with an annual average of 46 individuals served each night. The shelter provides a safe place for families and individuals to stay overnight with a focus on helping these victims of homelessness achieve stability within our community. Each night, shelter services are provided by 8 volunteers and staff members, offering career and housing opportunities and advice, nursing and doctor services, security and counseling.
